Underwater Cameras
The most popular type of underwater cameras are disposable as there is a lot less to go wrong when you introduce the camera to the water. The main problem is that disposable cameras have of late had a hard time, the public view them as poor quality and true they can be damaged and if your technique isn’t spot on they will produce dark, blurred photos but the same goes for any type of camera. Underwater cameras can be used for basic surface photography like taking a photo on a rainy day, on a boat or at the beach front where you’re surrounded by a potentially wet environment. Using an underwater camera can reduce the risk of ruining your photos as well as damaging an expensive camera that is susceptible to water damage.
It is important that you check the depth rating that underwater cameras are given, if you have a shallow depth camera then you’ll be only going down as far as thirty feet or so, the camera will be rated so that you won’t end up with a malfunctioning or completely broken camera. This can be very frustrating and a waste of time, especially if you’ve purchased it for a special ‘one-off’ event. It is essential to consider the time of day and how bright the sunlight is as the sun’s rays will only extend so far underwater, to take photos at your cameras optimum depth you’ll need take your photos at around midday, usually between ten am to three pm. Try to make sure the water you’re in is comparatively clear so there won’t be a lot of sand or sediment floating around while you’re shooting.
If you’re planning on going to a deep depth to take photos then it’s likely that standard underwater cameras won’t be able to handle the pressure and a more professional camera is needed. Proper professional underwater cameras will have the adequate seals and proper flash to take the perfect underwater shots. It is important to choose a camera that has the strap and the button to take the picture on the same side of the camera, this makes life a lot easier when snorkeling and navigating your way around underwater. It’s not something you’d think to consider but once you’re down there it is a feature that will make your underwater photography trouble free and leave you to focus on the excitement of underwater photography.
